They will include 33 different sports and 339 events, including 5 new disciplines: baseball-softball, karate, skateboarding, climbing and surfing. While the ceremony on Friday, July 24th will mark the official opening of the competition, preliminary round matches for football and softball competitions will begin on July 22nd 2020.

On March 12th, Tokyo 2020 unveiled the course of the Olympic Flame. Arriving from Greece on March 20th, 2020, the Olympic Flame will be on display for several days in the 3 cities that suffered most from the 2011 tsunami earthquake: Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima. Symbolizing the dawn of a new era, the Olympic Torch Relay will leave 6 days later at the J-Village Training Centre in Fukushima Prefecture. It will pass through Japan's 47 prefectures before opening the Olympic Games in Tokyo on July 24th, 2020.
